THE 2014 MET GALA: WHO WORE TOM FORD BEST?

The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute Gala was held on Monday, May 5, 2014, in celebration of the opening of the Charles James: Beyond Fashion exhibition and the new Anna Wintour Costume Center.  The 2014 benefit was chaired by Aerin Lauder and co-chaired by Bradley Cooper, Oscar de la Renta, Sarah Jessica Parker, Lizzie and Jonathan Tisch, and Anna Wintour.

This year guests were asked to follow a white tie with decorations dress code, and designer Tom Ford, Co-Chair Bradley Cooper and actor Colin Firth dressed the part in TOM FORD tailcoats, while actor Hugh Jackman and New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady went for more traditional TOM FORD black tie looks. [Editor Note: contrary to numerous reports, actor Benedict Cumberbatch wore Ralph Lauren, not TOM FORD, to the event.]

Details of each look are as follows:

Mr. Ford wore a black tailcoat with grosgrain lapel and trim with matching trousers, an ivory silk piquet waistcoat and matching bow tie, a white poplin and piquet evening shirt, diamond and sapphire cufflinks and shirt studs, an ivory silk pocket square, black polished calf leather opera pumps, and ivory kid leather gloves.

Bradley Cooper wore a black tailcoat with satin lapel and matching trousers, white cotton piquet waistcoat and matching bowtie, a white poplin and piquet evening shirt, diamond and onyx cufflinks and shirt studs, a white cotton pocket square, ivory silk evening scarf, black polished calf leather opera pumps.

Colin Firth wore a black tailcoat with satin lapel and matching trousers, white cotton piquet waistcoat and matching bowtie, a white poplin and piquet evening shirt, diamond and onyx cufflinks and shirt studs a white cotton pocket square, black polished calf leather opera pumps.

Hugh Jackman wore an ivory single breasted shawl collar cocktail jacket with grosgrain details, black tuxedo trousers, a white piquet plastron evening shirt, black grosgrain bow tie, and black patent leather lace ups.

Tom Brady wore a black single breasted velvet peak lapel cocktail jacket, black tuxedo trousers, a white poplin evening shirt, a black evening waistcoat, a black velvet bowtie, and black monk strap shoes.

Although all of them looked handsome, I think designer Tom Ford nailed the “white tie” look best with the addition of the white gloves. Absolute perfection.

I’d have to say Hugh Jackman. Not every man can pull off the all white look.

I’m going to go with Tom Ford for this one. IT just seems to fit him the best. Colin Firth looks quite dashing as well!
